Psalm 11

Go to God for protection: ‘In the LORD I take refuge’ (verse 1a).

Ignore any who suggest otherwise: ‘how can you say to my soul, “Flee like a bird to your mountain, for behold, the wicked bend the bow; they have fitted their arrow to the string to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart; if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (verses 1b-3).

Remember that the Lord is in charge: ‘The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD'S throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man’ (verse 4).

Divine testing is a sign he loves his people: ‘The LORD tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence’ (verse 5).

Pray for evil persons to be stopped: ‘Let him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulphur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup’ (verse 6).

Ask for grace to please God: ‘For the LORD is righteous; he loves righteous deeds’ (verse 7).

Thank God for the prospect of heaven: ‘the upright shall behold his face’ (verse 7).
