Oswestry Junior Camp 1 - Report

On Thursday 6th July, 27 campers, 11 leaders, 4 cooks and a bus driver, all arrived safely for the start of Oswestry Junior 1 camp at the Quinta Centre in Weston Rhyn after a mammoth bus journey. The week kicked off with outdoor activities and ice-breakers out on the field and we were blessed to have such good weather right through the week. With the sunny weather and the recently re-vamped outdoor pool, campers enjoyed a splash about in the pool, the first of many during the week. The focus of the evening talks was 'A life spent following Jesus' and this looked particularly at the life of Simon Peter. The talks were enjoyable and thought-provoking and some really encouraging dorm discussions followed each night, with many of the campers posing tough questions to the leaders. It was also great to hear so many young people praising God through the worship that took place each night. On top of this, each morning after breakfast one of the leaders spoke about a text that was important in their Christian lives or about their testimony, and these talks provided challenges and encouragements to the campers. Some of the activity highlights included Go-Karting, the Alton Towers trip and of course the shopping trip to Chester, but this year the camp also spent a day at a high ropes course. The campers (and leaders!) faced a number of challenges, including a maze, a skydive, a really big swing and even fencing & archery. The rest of the week was spent on site, where campers took part in 'the wide game', rounders, a scavenger hunt and best of all, the looney Olympics and annual water fight! On the last night of camp we had our barbecue, testimony night, talent concert and even managed to squeeze in a 2 am Ceilidh, before piling back on to the bus for the 3 am journey home. A great time was had by all and the leaders were really encouraged by the young people that attended. We thank the Lord for safety in travelling and throughout the week at camp and we continue to pray that he will be at work in these young people's hearts.
